How it works
SpamRival is a 99.99% effective solution that blocks
virtually all spam and unsolicited junk emails... thereby
preventing spam from getting to your computer inbox
whatsoever!
When an email arrives from an unknown sender, SpamRival
sends a challenge email back to that sender. The
challenge email asks the sender to authenticate by
clicking on a link.
The link takes them to a webpage where they are instructed
to type in a word that is shown in a graphic on that
webpage.
This challenge/authentication prevents automated
systems, such as those used to send spam and
unsolicited junk email, from authenticating
themselves.
Real humans, on the other hand, have no problem
authenticating themselves... it's just automated systems
that are prevented from authenticating.
Non-authenticated email messages are saved for six
days and then they are permanently removed from
our server, having never reached your computer.
You may also pre-authorize senders such as mailing lists,
ecommerce sites, etc at any time.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Is there any software to download or install?
- Absolutely not! SpamRival is not a piece of
software you download, but rather it is a server you
use just
- like your existing email server at your ISP. The
only configuration necessary is to tell SpamRival the
name
- or IP address of your existing ISP's mail server.
SpamRival works with any operating system and any
computer that supports normal Internet protocols. If
you can see this website, you can use SpamRival. It's
that simple!
- How does SpamRival know when I get unwanted
email?
- SpamRival uses an authentication process to allow
email to be accepted. If a sender is not on your
'Approved List', SpamRival will send a
challenge/authentication message to that sender. The
sender must then verify that he is a real live human
and not an automated process/program used by most
spammers. Once the sender is verified, he will be
automatically added to your 'Approved List' and may
start sending you email.
- How do I keep SpamRival from blocking emails from
someone I know?
- When someone sends you an email for the first time
they are automatically sent an email message from
- SpamRival. That email message tells them, in a
friendly way, you are trying to fight SPAM and asks
them to do two simple things to show they are not
spamming. If they follow the two steps in that email,
they are automatically added to your 'Approved List'.
If they fail to complete the Authentication Process,
they are automatically added to your 'Rejected List'.
This is to prevent spammers from sending you
unsolicited email. SpamRival allows you to add any
desired email address to your 'Approved List'
including those on your 'Rejected List'.
- When SpamRival.com sends a
challenge/authentication message, what are the 'two
simple steps' the
- sender must complete in order to be added to my
'Approved List'?
- In the email message that SpamRival.com sends, it
tells the sender, in a friendly way, you are trying to
fight SPAM and asks them to:
- 1) click a link to take them to a special web page
on the SpamRival.com website. And, once at
- that special web page, they are shown a word that
has been distorted graphically.
- 2) They are then asked to type that word in the box
on that web page. Humans can read the word, but
computers cannot. Therefore, spammers' automated
programs and processes cannot authenticate themselves
and their messages cannot get through to you.
- Will SpamRival allow me to add someone or take
someone off my 'Approved List'?
- Yes. SpamRival allows you to customize the approved
and rejected addresses in your account as necessary.
- Can I still receive email from automated senders
like airline ticket confirmations, eBay bid notices,
listservs, etc?
- You have total control over the emails you receive
or reject. You can add whatever email addresses you
like.
- Will SpamRival work with Yahoo, AOL, MSN or
Hotmail?
- SpamRival requires an email program that supports
the POP3 protocol. A program that supports the POP3
protocol is necessary to configure the SpamRival
server as your incoming mail server. Most email
providers offer this service. For users of webmail:
some webmail providers offer POP3 access to their
accounts for about $20.00/year, but not all do. Yahoo
and MSN/Hotmail both offer this, but Juno and AOL do
not. If you do not know, please check with your
webmail provider prior to subscribing. If you
subscribe, and we cannot configure your account to
work with your provider, we will refund your payment.
- Do I have to change my email address?
- Absolutely not! SpamRival works with your
existing email address. You do not have to change your
email address or even notify your existing ISP.
SpamRival takes care of everything in less than one
minute of setup time. So, long as your ISP supports
the POP3 Protocol, SpamRival will work fine. There are
no other features required of your ISP (i.e.:
forwarding, aliasing, etc are NOT required of your
ISP)
- Is there a delay in getting my mail with
SpamRival as opposed to how quickly I get it through
my ISP?
- SpamRival checks your ISP's mail server continuously
throughout each and every day. So the delay to get
your email should be no more than a couple of minutes
(depending on the volume of mail you receive).
